Project: Development of System for the Detection of Cracks on Edges of Paper in Bulleh Shah Packages (BSP) Board Production Process using Machine Vision
Collaborating Industry:
Bulleh Shah Packages (BSP), Kasur Paper Mill
Year of Completion:
2021
Overview:
During the paper production process, edges of the paper get cracks of different sizes and at different locations on both sides of paper. Papers with such cracks are considered defective and are rejected by customers. Once the paper is rolled, it is near to impossible to unroll it and check it for cracks. To avoid such scenarios, there was a need to develop a system to detect the paper cracks before rolling. A machine vision-based crack detection system was developed and deployed capable of processing information at higher speed. System will notify the operators whenever a crack is detected, and operators will be able to review the paper condition and take required action before paper is rolled.
